But now when General Pandey retires on June 30, Lieutenant General Dwivedi will take over as Army Chief.

Let us tell you that Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi joined the Army on 15 December 1984. At the same time, he took over the post of Deputy Chief of Army Staff from February 2024. He has great experience of operations on the China border as well as the Pakistan border. Lieutenant General Dwivedi has also been awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal. Lieutenant General Dwivedi is an alumnus of Sainik School-Rewa, National Defense Academy and Indian Military Academy. He has a graduate degree from the prestigious Defense Service Staff College. After which he has also participated in the Higher Command Course at the Army War College and the National Defense College Course at the United States Army War College.

Pakistan-China border

Lieutenant General Dwivedi has long experience of working on the Pakistan and China border. He commanded his battalion in the Assam Rifles Sector, Inspectorate General Assam Rifles (IGAR, East) in the Kashmir Valley, Indo-Myanmar border.
